We are back and ready for the new year! It always amazes us to see the tremendous growth over the holiday break and we cannot wait to get started with all the fun we have planned.
The preK class has been exploring the wonderful world of snowmen and cold winter weather. We read the story, The Mitten, and they worked on their fine motor development, cutting and lacing paper mittens. We also continue to focus on a variety of literacy skills. This week our work focused on letter recognition, letter-sound awareness, rhyming skills, and ending sounds.
We began our math groups this week, dedicating a separate and special time specifically for learning mathematic concepts. They are loving it! Each teacher does a different activity, rotating each day to a different teacher directed group. Miss Jennifer played a matching-memory game, Miss Marlene worked on patterns, and Miss Jenn had the children matching numbers to objects using one to one correspondence. It was a blast!
The children seemed to have really missed each other over the break, and it warms our hearts to see friendships growing. Happy New Year!
